Peedie Waaness is just over 1 mile from the village of Burray, which has a shop, a pub/restaurant/Hotel, mini-golf course and further out of the village there is the Orkney Fossil and Heritage Centre and Cafe.
There is a bus service which runs from St Margaret’s Hope through Burray to Kirkwall and then on to Stromness. The bus can be “hailed” at the end of Littlequoy Road.
There are more facilities at St Margaret’s Hope, which is on the island of South Ronaldsay, 4 miles away, connected by No 4 Churchill Barrier, with shops and post office, sandy beaches, a 9 hole Golf Course and a GP practice. The ‘Hope’ is also home to M V Alfred, the Pentland Ferries catamaran ferry service, with frequent daily sailings to mainland Scotland, landing at Gills Bay near John O’Groats.
The Islands of Orkney hold many interesting and diverse attractions and places to be seen. The city of Kirkwall has its famous St. Magnus Cathedral, which is situated on the main street. Kirkwall holds something for everyone; shops, cafes, leisure centre & cinema, museums and working harbour, which is always buzzing with activity. Supermarkets too are available for any provisions required.
